my POV i do support john comment...as this heat shield will prevent directly heat from engine to the filter but overall this is inside a compartment of engine where indirectly the heat will circulate in the engine enviromnment....but to improve ur engine heat level effect to the filter is to change ur front bonnet with the air flow type....just my 2 kupang...

in my personal test, heat sheild is not improving a lot unless u add CAI. CAI also not so good if not togather with heatsheild. i DIY my heatshield like the picture above and put CAI. using short ram only. can feel the improvement. improvement can be feel at when cruising 60km.h and above.
for auto, using short ram can improve more rather than long rams. that because the long ram will resulting lagging and the improvement cant be feel. it is advisable for auto car using shortest ram as it can be.
if u refering the dyno chart, u can see the improvement ONLY obtain at the middle end until high end. thats is where the part u start to feel the improvement. but human feels, normally will only feel the improvement at high end only...
the best result to feel the open pods is when u put piggy back. it is because the standard A/F ratio cannot fully utilize the open pods capability. by supporting the piggy back, it can correct back the ratio.
i agreed about the branding. it depends to owner to justify the satisfaction level. some people can satisfied with the high cost open pods like weapon r, fujita and etc and some people satisfied with K&N, apexi and etc (like me). for me its more to the effect u obtain vs the money ur spend...
if cant afford to buy vented hood, why dont jz lift the hood a bit? can help to spread out the heat even faster espaciali when rev to the limits...
i know the post is quite old but sharing my experience, knowledge and 2 cents only... correct me if im wrong. regards
